Shopping For Baseball Gear: How To Buy Bats And Gloves

Anyone who wants to get started in the sport of baseball is going to need to make sure they have all the right gear. There is a lot of different baseball gear that you could purchase but buying bats and gloves is the best place to get started. These are two of the most vital pieces of baseball gear and those which will have the greatest impact on your game overall. To get things going you want to look for a bat and it depends on the age of the player as to what size of bat will be appropriate.

For the bat, the size chosen will be determined based on the age of the player. These bats should have a barrel with a diameter of no more than 2 1/4 inches. There are also Little League bats which are a little larger, and used for children ages 7 through 12. Bat lengths range from 28 to 32 inches and heavier bats are around the minus 7 weight drop point whereas the lightest bats would reach minus 13.

The Senior League bats are the second largest in size at 2 5/8 to 2 ¾ inches. Your bat should always feel comfortable and be properly sized to your height. Once you have chosen the right bat you can get started on finding a glove. Again, the size is going to be one of the most important aspects to take into consideration here.

Of the different features on a glove the webbing, pocket depth and backs are the most important to concern yourself with. Webbing refers to the open or closed web on a glove and it’s important to choose the style based on what field position you will be playing. Pocket depth has a huge impact on your game and you want to decide on which pocket depth is most suitable for you based upon which field position you’re going to be playing. Players who will be catching fast balls and who need to catch and throw balls quickly stick with a shallow pocket, whereas those who will be sticking to the outfield will want to get a glove with a deeper pocket.

Choosing a glove size can be the most difficult and the easiest way to decide is to try a few on. Remember, your glove needs to fit comfortably on your hand. Also consider your budget when shopping for gloves, bats and other baseball gear because pieces vary so much in price. Depending on the make and type of gear you get, prices can vary hugely so have at least a basic idea of what you want to spend before spending any money.
